Object Works – Conceptual Collage and Cube Series

The project Stamp Side by Side was initiated by Sam Jedig in 2008. Working with thousands of used stamps, he began filling a frame edge to edge until the stamps stood upright, forming a dense monochrome surface. The imagery and national symbolism gradually disappeared, leaving a textured paper field — a silent surface of pure materiality. Rooted in repetition and process, the work strips the stamp of its original function and transforms it into a form of "dumb art" — emptied of meaning and narrative.

The ongoing series, titled Stamp Monochrome, consists of large frames filled with up to one million stamps placed side by side. In more recent versions, started in 2021, Jedig uses blank stamp paper on long rolls where single words such as nothing or silenced are repeated continuously. These minimalist works explore visual rhythm, mechanical gesture, and erasure as conceptual strategies.

One of these works was first exhibited in 2011 at Viborg Kunsthal as part of a major Artstamp.dk group exhibition.

The Cube Project consists of 400 sculptural cube objects with surfaces in copper, brass, and aluminium. The cubes are produced in two sizes: 15 x 15 x 15 cm and 30 x 30 x 30 cm. They are arranged in modular formations — both indoors and outdoors — and exposed to natural forces such as rain, wind, light, and oxidation, which gradually alter their surfaces. Each cube absorbs traces of its environment and becomes a silent witness to time and place. When installed in natural settings — individually or in sequence — the cubes form sculptural narratives where only shape and trace remain.

These works are directly connected to Jedig’s long-running Stalke Out Of Space Cube Project, where repetition, transformation, and spatial presence are central themes.
