Stamp Monochrome – Repetition Series


The Repetition Series is part of Sam Jedig’s ongoing Stamp Monochrome project, initiated in 2008. These works are built from thousands of used or empty stamps placed side by side, often in strict, minimalist formations. By eliminating the traditional function and imagery of the stamp, Jedig creates a visual language based entirely on rhythm, structure, and silence.


Each collage is constructed by hand, stamp by stamp, and arranged in sequences that evoke patterns, systems, or even national symbols—now stripped of identity. While some works appear geometric and formal, others lean toward the chaotic or symbolic. Repetition acts both as a method and a meaning, where the material loses its historical function and becomes something abstract, physical, and quiet.


The works are executed with the precision of printing or weaving, but always retain traces of the manual process. The stamps stand vertically, cancelling the image surface and transforming the picture plane into pure paper texture. This strategy connects the works directly to themes of conceptual art, repetition, and systemic failure.


The Repetition Series can be seen as a visual archive of silence, order, and subtle resistance.

Repetition”, 2021–. Stamp rolls featuring blank or used stamp frames placed side by side. On some rolls, machine-written text such as “nothing” or “silenced” is repeated, gradually dissolving both image surface and postal function.
