No More Protection 2006

No More Protection (2006) was first exhibited at Kambur Gallery, Iceland, as part of the show Wish You Were Here – a title borrowed from Pink Floyd’s iconic 1975 album. The series reflects a visual and psychological transformation, echoing themes of loss, presence, and the desire for connection.

As in later series such as Denmark Series 2017, Jedig explores identity as both a mask and a mirror. The figures in No More Protection are faceless yet charged with symbolic force – bearing flags, wounds, and emblems of nationalism. Their anonymity resists categorization, while the recurring red-and-white palette roots the work in a specifically Danish visual context.

The masked subjects oscillate between protector and prisoner, presence and erasure. This tension defines Jedig’s ongoing interest in how identity is constructed, concealed, and performed across time.

Selected works from No More Protection, 2006 – a key early mask series by Sam Jedig, combining painted overlays on vintage prints. Originally exhibited in Iceland, the series features symbolic figures in red, white, and black, challenging national imagery and fixed identities.
