Danmarks series 2015

The Denmark Series (2015–2016) is based on vintage Danish portrait prints of kings, queens, and historical figures. Sam Jedig reworks these images with painted masks and black overlays, allowing the age, stains, and wear of the paper to become part of the expression. The series explores identity and national symbolism – not by hiding, but by revealing.

In contrast to The Denmark Series 2017 and No More Protection (2006), where the visual language is more graphic or confrontational, this series appears more fragile and reflective. The mask remains a central motif in Jedig’s practice – anonymous, yet culturally charged.

Works from Sam Jedig’s Denmark Series 2015–16, created on 18th-century prints of Danish royals. Aged paper and surface wear become part of the image, merging historical identity with contemporary reflection.
